Organizing is a collaborative process

I work one-on-one with my clients the majority of the time. My roles in organizing sessions include being the facilitator, coach, consultant, and creative problem-solver. Over the years, I have become an expert at creating solutions customized to fit each individual’s lifestyle. Working directly with my clients makes organizing a mutual process that allows us to achieve your goals.

During the organizing process, items are systematically processed (purged, relocated, stored) in different phases. I lead my clients with one-on-one coaching, as I guide them through the 4 phases of organizing: analysis, strategizing, implementation, and maintenance. As we complete the organizing, we will create systems to get you back on track.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will this take?

Answering this is like guessing how many items are in a closed box. You really don’t know until you pull everything out to see what’s in there. I can work as fast or slow as the clients I am working with require (I have plenty of energy!), so the time it takes depends on the volume of stuff you have and how quickly you can make decisions about what to keep and what to part with.

Will I be forced to part with my keepsakes?

Absolutely not. I do not impose a rigid system of purging on my clients, and functionality of spaces is emphasized over perfection. My clients are empowered to make decisions about what to keep and which items to shed without being pressured to become a hard core minimalist.

When is the best time to start organizing?

There really is no “best time” to start the process. Starting is the hardest part, and there is often a great deal of procrastination due to overwhelm and other emotional blocks. As soon as you can, commit some time and take the first step with my professional guidance. As the self-help guru, Tony Robbins, affirms “Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.”

How and when do I get organizing supplies and products?

Much of the time people already have organizing products that have never been used or that are not being used in their best capacity. Before making any suggestions for new items to buy, I find out what my clients already have. Purchasing new supplies is not a requirement, but I do provide a list of recommended products to each of my clients in case they want to take their organization to the next level.

What if my place is the worst case you’ve ever seen? What if I’m embarrassed about the clutter in my home?

After many years of organizing with people in many different cities from Alaska to New York, the chance of your situation being the worst case is highly unlikely. When I see disorganized areas, I’m trained to envision what they will ideally look like after the work is complete rather than what is in front of me. Since I work with people in messy situations frequently, disorganized spaces are the “norm” for me, and it’s where I do my best work with others.

Can I trust you to come into my home with all of my stuff?

It’s normal to feel apprehensive about inviting strangers into your home, but my track record indicates I’m trustworthy and dependable. Feel free to check out the testimonials on this website, Yelp reviews, and I can provide references who are past and current clients upon request.

In case you have expensive or fragile possessions you’re concerned about, my business is covered by liability insurance in case anything is damaged accidentally. I also fully adhere to the NAPO Code of Ethics, which means I keep my clients’ names, what is in their homes or offices, and details about what I do with them completely confidential.

What are the benefits of organizing?

There are unlimited benefits of having an organized life. Some of the many positive results are: feeling less stress and more relaxed, reduced mental clutter, feeling like your life is more manageable, being healthier, and higher productivity. The end result is that you can be the best version of yourself by changing your life and becoming unblocked.

Will the organization last?

Organizing your life entails changing habits to establish and maintain order in the at-risk spots of your home or office. Maintenance depends on planning ahead and establishing new systems that work for you. This is part of the work I do with my clients to ensure that they can maintain an organized lifestyle. Some clients schedule regular “tune up” sessions after the bulk of the initial organizing is completed to keep themselves accountable.

What if I don't know when and how to start off?

This is something I help people figure out by prioritizing what needs to be done, then creating a game plan with them. Often fear, shame, and intimidation blocks people from taking the first steps to getting organized. I’m there to motivate my clients to get started and follow through with the process.

What is your specific approach to organizing?

My approach to organizing is very “client-centered,” based on the principal method of counseling I embraced in my academic studies. Client-centered counseling allows clients to uncover answers to dilemmas for themselves. Organizing is a collaborative and productive process and working together with my clients we can achieve any goals we set.

I also take a Holistic approach, integrating physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects into my organizing practice. My work is considered sacred and I believe it is possible to transform lives with the work we do.

Additionally, I prefer Green (sustainable) practices so I highly recommend that donatable items be donated to charities of your choice, recyclable items be recycled, and hazardous chemicals be disposed of properly.
